A Fatty Package

The day before yesterday was a very special day.

We got us a package delivered! We'd been waiting and waiting...I think it took over 2 weeks to arrive from the US. Guess why?

Yar seriously. So the the US postal service can't read. I mean M-A-L-A-Y-S-I-A looks NOTHING like T-H-A-I-L-A-N-D, does it? Duh.
Having said that, we have a wonderful friend called Paul Wong who lives in the US. And in the US, they have exceptionally good chocolate. Look what he sent us:

Mexican Chocolate – comes in blocks that you can break off and shave, then add to hot milk! Mmmm mmm, can't wait to try it out!

Ooh – Uncle Paul loves us, cos me likes Ghirardelli!

How not to be happy? Got free toiletries somemore.

Just to prove to you what a journey my sweet toiletries and chockies had to go through, check this out:

Don't play play. Am eating up a storm now. And yeah, if you feel like some chocolates, don't ask us. We're not sharing. THANKS UNCLE PAUL!

p/s None of the dogs featured actually consumed any of the chocolates. Chocolates are poisonous to dogs. They were only allowed to sniff em.

Singapore, Singapore.

Mowpea enjoys an occasional PCK.
And the shopping is great.
And what a clean country.
Though you have to admit, not unlike other countries, Singapore does open themselves up for ridicule every so often.

Mowpea loooooves this article because it gives them all the more reason to make fun of Singaporeans :-b

Dry pet food implicated in North American recall
Recall expanded after tests detected a suspect chemical used to make dry food

Apr 1, 2007
Reuters

WASHINGTON, March 31 (Reuters) - A major recall of pet food in North America has expanded to two more companies and now includes dry food for the first time, U.S. federal health authorities and the companies said.

The Food and Drug Administration said late on Friday it notified Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. that tests had detected byproducts of a suspect chemical in the wheat gluten it used to make Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry food.

The FDA concluded earlier on Friday that melamine, a chemical used in fertilizers in Asia and forbidden in pet food, had been found in some wheat gluten used by a Canadian company at the center of the recall two weeks ago.

Ontario-based Menu Foods makes pet food sold under several popular labels. The FDA and Menu said the suspect wheat gluten came from a Chinese supplier, which was not identified.

Menu recalled certain batches of wet pet food in mid-March after the products were blamed for the deaths of at least 14 animals -- mostly cats.

The FDA, which is continuing its investigation, found that wheat gluten from the same company that supplied Menu Foods was used to make the Hill's product, the first time a dry food had been implicated.

Hill's, a unit of Colgate-Palmolive Co. based in Topeka, Kansas, has voluntarily recalled the product sold through veterinarians. The company confirmed the recall in a statement.

Separately, Nestle Purina PetCare Co. announced in a statement it was voluntarily recalling all sizes and varieties of its ALPO Prime Cuts in Gravy wet dog food with specific date codes.

Nestle Purina, based in St. Louis, said it learned on Friday that "some quantity" of wheat gluten from the same supply company linked to Menu and Hill's was used on a limited basis at one of its facilities.

No Purina brand dry pet foods were affected by the recall.

Sabotage?

The answer to why the poor animals died:

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/P/PET_FOOD_RECALL?SITE=ASIAONE&SECTION=
TOP_STORIES&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

Huge amounts of rat poison were found in the pet food. They're hinting at possible sabotage. I couldn't think of a meaner way to sabotage a company. Why target the innocent animals? They just don't deserve it.

Lassie gets eaten-no joke.

I got this news from another friend. It's pretty shocking what happens to animals in this country!
First they beat them, now they're eating them!
My advice: Keep your pets on a tight leash, or better yet, keep them in your house...and let them sleep on your bed.
Mowgli and Peanut believe that they're much safer in an air-cond room, far away from potential dog eaters.

Cross-country: Lodge reports if pets go missing
27 Feb 2007
Lau Meisan

JOHOR BARU: Owners of missing pet cats and dogs should lodge reports with the police and Veterinary Services Department to enable claims that foreign workers had caught and eaten the animals, be investigated.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Johor Baru vice-president Jacqualine Gomez said if the allegations were found to be true, action would be taken against the workers.
Offenders could be charged under the Animal Ordinance 1953, which provides for a maximum fine of RM200 or a jail term not exceeding six months.
Gomez said some residents in Taman Seri Bahagia, though claiming to have seen foreign workers trying to catch their pets, had refused to lodge reports.
"Some said it was too troublesome and the police might just brush aside the matter as it involved only animals."
It would be good if anyone could provide the society with video recordings or clips of the animal thefts, she added.
"Swift action can help save other animals from suffering the same fate."
Pets and stray animals in Taman Kota Masai and Taman Seri Bahagia had gone missing over the past few months.
Residents are keeping their pets off the street as rumours have been going around that drug addicts are selling them to foreign workers at RM5 per head.
There were claims that the foreign workers ate the animals, and some owners said they found the skins of their pets in rubbish bins.
